The other day I had a sty or hordeolum at the edge of my lower eyelid. Initially I just felt a slight pain. Then by the following morning, it had swollen into a red tender and painful lump at the affected area. My eye felt irritated and at times it itched.
Usually a sty is a harmless eye problems. It looks like a boil or a pimple. It can be formed both inside and outside your eyelid.
From what I have read, besides poor hygiene, the formation of a sty is the result of an infection of the oil glands of the eyelid. This happens because the glands have become clogged.
If it is a mild sty, normally I would wash the affected area with a clean warm face towel. And just let it rupture by itself. Then it will go away after a few days.
This time around my sty appeared to last longer. I could not see any pus formation. After just washing it and treated it with eye-drops for three days with not much result, I bought Terramycin ophthalmic ointment from my neighborhood pharmacy. It cost only RM5(1.53 USD).
It worked wonderfully well. Using a clean cotton stick, I applied the colorless creamy ointment on my sty a few times a day. After applying it for a day, the pain was lessen and with a gentle press with a cotton stick, the yellow pus oozed out. Then I applied the sticky and oily ointment over the reddish area.
Walnuts Can Reduce The Risk Of Heart Attack And Diabetes
As I have mentioned before here about nuts can reduce the risk of a heart attack.
According to another research by Yale University study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, overweight adults can reduce the mortality risk from diabetes and heart disease by eating walnuts.
Back in 2011, a scientific study, walnuts are said to rank number one as heart-healthy antioxidants. Joe Vinson, Ph.D said that walnuts contains almost twice as much antioxidants as an equivalent amount of any other commonly consumed nut. [source]
The latest study also revealed that people who ate nuts, particularly walnuts, tended to have a lower body mass index and a smaller waist. They were less likely to smoke and were more likely to be physically active.[source]

Calcium Supplements And The Increase Risk Of Heart Attack
All this time, we have read or heard that calcium is one of the many minerals your body needs for building strong bones.
Now, I read there is a possibility that calcium supplement could increase the risk of having a heart attack.
Not only calcium supplements have also shown to have little benefit to prevent osteoporosis, a study have shown women with consumption of calcium from dairy products had the highest risk of fractures. And also those who took calcium supplements had the highest risk for kidney stones. [source]
Another shocking 2001 finding is that men who consumed calcium from diary products and the risk of prostate cancer.
According to Robert Thompson, M.D.'s book "The Calcium Lie II: What Your Doctor Still Doesn't Know: How Mineral Imbalances Are Damaging Your Health", if you take too much calcium through food sources or by taking supplements, you are going to end up with problems, that include obesity, Type 2 diabetes, kidney stones, Type 2 hypothyroidism, hypertension, depression, problem pregnancies and others.
Calcium And Heart-Related Disease
Most of the time, we read that the fatty plaques in our arteries is the buildup of cholesterol. But according to this article, cholesterol is soft and does not damage the elasticity of our arteries. You can rad more about what the called "The Cholesterol Myths".
The main culprit is the calcium deposits that harden your arteries and damage their ability to expand.

Four Tell-Tale Signs Or symptoms You Are Going To Have A Heart Attack
What I have read is that many people who are over 35 years old, are already having the early stages of cardiovascular disease without even realizing it.
Remember heart attack is popularly known as a silent killer. It is reported as high as 25 percent of all heart attacks happen “silently,”; without any obvious signs.
Watch out for these four tell-tale or warning signs of impending heart attack and heart-related disease.
1. Suddenly breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.
2. Uncomfortable pressure squeezing in the center of your chest, which lasts for a few minutes. It goes off and it may come back again.
3. Uncomfortable pain or aching at your upper body area, which include shoulders, neck, arms and jaws.
4. Shortness of breath.
The key thing is the sooner you receive treatment, the less damage will be done to your heart.

Quotes About Envy And Jealousy To Keep Your Resentment At Bay
There is a difference between envy and jealousy. Envy is the desire to have what another person has in their life or resentful dislike of another who has something that one desires. As for jealousy is more a fear that someone is better or that what they have.
Whether one is envious or jealous, he or she will experience anxiety, negative thoughts and uneasy feelings; obsessively thinking about the person or events.
According to philosopher John Rawls, jealousy involves the wish to keep what one has and envy the wish to get what one does not have.
I know at times it is rather difficult to hold down our feelings of envy or jealousy. But as we know these resentful emotions are not good or healthy for us. So, the next time when you are feeling jealous or envious of someone, get hold on to yourself and inwardly tell yourself to snap out of it.
Here is my selection of jealousy and envy quotes:
"Envy eats nothing, but its own heart." - Proverb
"Jealousy dislikes the world to know it.” - George Gordon Byron
"It is never wise to seek or wish for another's misfortune. If malice or envy were tangible and had a shape, it would be the shape of a boomerang." - Charley Reese
"In jealousy there is more self-love than love." - François de La Rochefoucauld
“The envious man thinks that if his neighbor breaks a leg, he will be able to walk better himself” - Helmut Schoeck
"Rust consumes iron and envy consumes itself." - Danish Proverb
"The jealous are troublesome to others, but a torment to themselves." - William Penn
"Jealousy is always born with love, but does not always die with it." - Rochefoucauld
"Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own." - Harold Coffin
"Envy is thin because it bites but never eats." - Spanish Proverb
"A show of envy is an insult to oneself." - Yevgeny Alexandrovich Yevtushenko
"Our envy always lasts longer than the happiness of those we envy." - François de La Rochefoucauld
“You can't be envious and happy at the same time” - Frank Tyger
“Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own.” - Harold Coffin
"No one can have all he wants, but a man can refrain from wanting what he has not, and cheerfully make the best of a bird in the hand." - Seneca
"Envy is more irreconcilable than hatred." - François de La Rochefoucauld
"Jealousy injures us with the dagger of self-doubt." - Terri Guillemets
"To jealousy, nothing is more frightful than laughter." - Francoise Sagan
"Envy is ignorance." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Envy lurks at the bottom of the human heart like a viper in its hole." - Honoré de Balzac
"The jealous are troublesome to others, but a torment to themselves." - William Penn
"Pity is for the living, envy is for the dead." - Mark Twain
“Envy shoots at others and wounds itself” - English Proverb
"For one man who sincerely pities our misfortunes, there are a thousand who sincerely hate our success." - Charles Caleb Colton
“Isn't it kind of silly to think that tearing someone else down builds you up?” - Sean Covey
“Envy eats nothing but its own heart” - German Proverb
“It is better to want what you have than to have what you want” - Proverb
“Envy is like a fly that passes all the body's sounder parts, and dwells upon the sores” - Arthur Chapman

If You Don't Feel Good About Yourself , Read This Book By Richard Carlson
Here are quotes and information related to the book, "You Can Feel Good Again: Common-Sense Strategies for Releasing Unhappiness and Changing Your Life" by the late Richard Carlson.
“The greatest affliction affecting mankind isn’t serious mental illness – but the general uneasiness and unhappiness that is so prevalent in our society.” - Carl Jung
"Many of us are experiencing life in a 'lifeless' manner."
"Your past is only a figment of your imagination and so is your future. The only moment that is real is right now."
"To break free from unhappiness you have to bring yourself back to the present. You must realize that your past is no longer here--it's over. It exists only within your own thinking. It was real then, but now, it's only a part of your imagination."
"If you believe that your thinking is something that happens to you--instead of something that you are doing to create an experience of life--it is impossible for you to live in the present moment."
"True happiness occurs when you quiet down your analytical mind..."
"Your though always create your emotions"
"Attending therapy frequently don't make one happy. They only make clients brood about how miserable their lives are."
"Depression is the result of faulty thinking habits."
"Problems, regardless of their source, are actually exacerbated by prolonged examination."
"Happiness and mental health can instead be achieved by 'making a commitment to happiness'; and by intercepting and halting negative thoughts immediately and replacing them with more positive, mood-lifting thoughts."
"Our thoughts create our perception of life."
"Negative people don't see their thoughts as thoughts, they see them as reality, as important."
These are some of the key quotes from the book which uses theories based on the "Psychology of Mind". You can read more about this new branch of psychotherapy here.
Don't be fooled by this deceptively simple and easy-to-understand book, "You Can Feel Good Again: Common-Sense Strategies for Releasing Unhappiness and Changing Your Life". It is full of wisdom, comforting and reassuring advice. This Dr. Carlson's book is no pop psychology approaches to mental health.

TrueScience Anti-Aging Cream And How To Slow The Aging Process Tips
I wonder how many of you have tried TrueScience Anti-Aging Cream. Personally I have never tried any kind of anti-ageing skin care products or go for anti-ageing treatments.
According to its site, it claims that TrueScience Anti-Aging Cream goes for the the causes of aging.
This anti-wrinkle formula can improve skin tone, texture and appearance. It says to have six skin-rebuilding essentials and made up of eleven ingredients.
Anyway, whatever it is, I still haven't try any form of anti-aging skin cream, supplements or any other related products.
But I have tried anti aging home remedies. For instance, by using egg white mask, applying almond oil, and rub potato slices on my blemish marks and age spots. And I have also tried consuming those so-called anti aging foods.
Then there is this an anti aging facial, I read about. If I am not mistaken, this treatment comprises of collagen mask, chemical peel and the use of serums to exfoliates the skin.
For me, I believe the most effective way to slow aging is definitely any form of exercise. You can read more a research published in American Journal of Physiology.

Never Drink A Pitcher Of Tea A Day Or You May Have Rare Bone Disease Someday
We have read about the benefits of drinking green tea. Now I read a news report that a 47-year-old Detroit woman who developed a very rare bone disease after she has been drinking a pitcher of tea daily for the past 17 years.
This tea-drinking lady was having pain in her lower back, arms, legs and hips for five years. Her X-rays showed she has a very dense bone on the spinal vertebrae and calcifications of ligaments in her arm.
The researchers suspected the patient has skeletal fluorosis. It is a bone disease caused by taking in too much fluoride. Floride is a mineral can be found in tea and drinking water.
According to the researchers, her blood levels of fluoride were four times higher than what would be considered normal.
My personal view is moderation. No matter what you have read or heard from the health journals, it is wise to take things in moderation. Do not follow blindly to all these latest medical findings or research. [source]

Drinking Greek Coffee Can Make You Live Longer
Remember the Greek island Ikaria aka “The Place Where People Forget to Die”? It was said that one percent of Ikaria’s inhabitants live right up to their 90s.
There are a couple of reasons why the folks there live longer and stay sharper and healthier. Besides the lack of pollution in this island, the Ikarians consume lots of fruits and vegetables, and drink wine in moderation.
One startling discovery by Dr. Gerasimos Siasos of the University of Athens, is coffee drinking. Yes, we have read that coffee and tea have health benefits as compared to other beverages.
But not any coffee. They have been consuming an unique boiled Greek type of coffee. It is said to have a moderate amount of caffeine, but rich in polyphenols and antioxidants. [source]

Drinking Coffee And Green Tea Every Day Could Save Your Life
Good news for me and many others, I'm sure. There is a new study from The Land of The Rising Sun or Japan, says that those who drink both green tea and coffee every day have a lower risk of stroke than those who drink just one or the other (or neither).
According to this latest study published in the American Heart Association's journal called Stroke, people who had a cup of coffee every day were 20 percent less likely to have a stroke as compared to those who didn't drink coffee at all.
I am sure many of us have heard about the benefits (antioxidant properties) of drinking green tea. This time says that folks who drank four or more cups of green tea a day, were also about 20 percent less likely to have a stroke.
As coffee and green tea help prevent strokes in different ways, so it is advisable to drink both drinks to lower your risk of stroke.
It was explained that regular consumption of both green tea and coffee it keeps blood clots from forming. As we know a stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery in the brain or when a blood vessel breaks, thus causing an interruption of blood flow to the brain.
Green tea contains compounds known as catechins, which can help regulate blood pressure and improve blood flow. As for coffee, it contains quinides, compounds that can help control blood sugar; which cuts your risk of stroke by reducing your risk of Type 2 diabetes. [source]

Reduce Triglycerides To Prevent Heart-Related Problems
Some time ago I wrote about the level of triglycerides in your blood is an important indication of your health, especially your heart.
Today I read somewhere, in order to prevent triglycerides level from going up, do some light exercise after meals. Similarly as what I have mentioned in my past article, the researcher of Kyoto Prefectural University in Kyoto Japan, high triglyceride or fats in the blood level can put one at risk for cardiovascular disease, heart attack, and other heart-related conditions.
This Japanese researcher recommended that walking and light resistant training one hour after a fatty meal reduced the boost of triglycerides that normally occurs after consuming a high-fat meal.
So next time when you have your blood test, don't just concentrate on your cholesterol, but also look at your triglyceride level.
Less than 150 is Normal.
150 to 199 is Borderline-High.
200 to 499 is High.
500 or higher is Very High.
The causes of high triglycerides are usually caused by conditions, such as obesity, poorly controlled diabetes, kidney disease, regularly consuming more calories than you burn and also
drinking too much alcohol.
It is also said that some medicines may also cause to raise triglycerides, which include birth control pills, beta-blockers, steroids, estrogen, diuretics and tamoxifen.

Fructose Causes Overeating And Obesity Problem
According to a study by scientists from Yale University in US, fructose or fruit sugar causes one to overeating.
Fructose Brain And Hunger
It was discovered with that after drinking fructose-laden drinks, parts of the brain associated with desire for food, motivation and reward processing were switched off or suppressed. In other words, the brain did not register the feelings of fullness or satisfied. That could lead one to overeat and obesity, as a result.
As fructose is sweeter and cheaper than glucose, food manufacturers are using more high-fructose corn syrup in the foods we eat. Fructose can be found in fruits, sugar and even water.
For those of you who want to prevent one from overeating which could lead to weight problem, it is best reduce the intake of sugar, or if possible stay clear of sugar-sweetened sodas and drinks.
My personal view is eat with moderation and avoid eating unhealthy foods.

5 Ways To Lower Blood Pressure With No Medication
We keep reading or hearing that high blood pressure can lead to cardiovascular problems, heart disease and stroke, but do we really care?
Generally if we are healthy (or rather we think you are), we don't really give a hoot about our health. Of course until the day comes when we are diagnosed with hypertension or worst still have a heart attack out of the blue.
Besides, cardiovascular problems, the is a new study which says that a slight increased of blood pressure can also cause your brain to age prematurely; thus leading to memory loss and dementia.
So before you become the next victim of a heart attack or starts to lose your memory prematurely, it's time to make some changes to your lifestyle and eating habits.
Here are five useful tips on how to lower your blood pressure naturally without any medication.
1. Move It, Move It
It's time to get moving. You don't need to go for strenuous exercise. Just go brisk walking just three times a week. Just to work on your heart, so that it can work more efficiently. Regular exercise can help you to keep your weight under control. As you know, one major contributor of blood pressure is putting on weight.
2. Reduce Your Caffeine
Studies have shown that caffeine can temporarily increase blood pressure. Caffeine is a stimulant so it can increase your heart beat.
3. Meditation
Don't be frighten or turn off by the word meditation. Nothing religious. It is just basically sitting down in a comfortable position and not doing anything. Just sit still and relax. Clear your mind and concentrate on your own breathing for a couple of minutes.
4. Eat Wisely
Read up about food which can naturally lower your blood pressure. Food like beans, garlic, nuts, bananas, chili peppers, and even dark chocolate.
5. Reduce Salt Intake
Always maintain a low sodium diet. Cultivate the habit of not using the salt shaker. And avoid salty foods.

Six Foods With Hidden Salt Which Can Cause Stroke And Heart Attack
We have been warned time and again the danger of consuming too much salt in our food intake. We know that we should not consume more than 5 grams of salt per day.
It is said that when we consume sodium or salt, it causes our body to retain water. Thus increases our blood pressure.
High blood pressure or hypertension is a major risk factor for heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
But then again, back in 2011, there was an article published in the Nature magazine, which highlighted that there is no connection between of too much salt and the development of cardiovascular disease.
Anyway, whatever it is, I always believe we should always take everything in moderation.
Most of us when we mention salt, we always assume the salt shaker and those salty snacks are the culprits.
But in fact, there are foods which we have been consuming daily, without even knowing they are equally guilty of adding excess salt to our daily food intake.
Beware of these list of foods which are actually laden with salt:
1. Bread & Rolls
Do you know that a piece of bread is packed with about 230 mg of sodium?
2. Cold Cuts & Cured Meats
Next time when you are at the deli, go slow with all those cured meats, pre-packed turkey and cold cuts. It is said that a serving of deli can have as much as 1,050 mg of sodium.
3. Pizza
Do yo know just one innocent slice of pizza has about 760 mg of sodium?. Just stuffing two slices is and you have already hit the salt limit for the day!
4. Chicken Nuggets
If you can, avoid those frozen breaded chicken nuggets. They have about 600 mg of salt.
5. Canned Soup
A cup of canned soup contains around 940 mg salt.
6. Sandwiches
If you want to take sandwiches, avoid salt-filled condiments, such as mustard and ketchup.

PACE Exercise Program Does It Work?
Have you read about Dr. sears 12-minute workout called PACE?
PACE stands for “Progressively Accelerating Cardiopulmonary Exertion”. This exercise techniques is not about doing long period of workout to exert yourself. According to Dr. Sears that those long boring cardio exercises can decrease your lung capacity and downsize the reserve capacity of your heart.
The key of 12-Minute PACE is by making incremental increases in the intensity of your exercise, you will continue to change your body through time.No more long tiresome workouts.
Some say it is similar to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), which is based on the Tabata Method.
PACE is an easy-to-follow exercise plan said to boost your lung power, build heart strength, and burn fat even while resting. And the best part, you just need to do only 12 minutes a day.
Interestingly, this simple exercise program, you find that the duration of each exertion period decreases.
All these methods are about short burst of high-intensity workout and then you take a short period of rest in-between.
For the exercise, you can choose any of your favorite activity that can give exertion to your heart. It can be running on a treadmill, elliptical machine, staionary bike, rope jumping, trampoline even walking up and down the stairs or brisk walking.
For those of you who have a heart problem, it is strongly advisable you should check with your personal physician before doing any of these exercises.
Personally, I am not too sure whether PACE, Tabata Training or other HIIT training methods really work. It is advisable to find out more from various sources or even your doctor, before you do more harm to your body.
